A little about me & my brand.
My name is Adrienne Wilson and I am the creator of Barnyard Boards. I have been married to my husband, Dan, for 25 years and we have two amazing kids! Josie, our daughter, is 25 years old and is in marketing and our son, Cole, is 20 years old and currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. We also have our two dogs, Rocco and Dallas, who are a huge part of our family! My husband and I also own a landscaping company which we have had for twelve years.
Eight years ago we moved to my family’s farm after the passing of our Matriarch, my beloved grandmother. The farm has been in the family for so long, it just felt like the right thing to do. I left my job at the law firm I was working at to work full time for our business and maintain the farm. As the kids got older and started their next chapters, I needed something to do with my “extra” time. I started dabbling in woodworking with some beginner projects such as signs, repurposing furniture and other odds and ends. That was very satisfying and I enjoyed the work very much. However, I enjoy a challenge and was looking for something different. So, after one of my daily walks in the woods, I started getting some ideas when seeing the trees that fell and remnants of old trees lying around. I began doing some research and for Mother’s Day that year, asked for some bigger power tools and went to work in the barnyard and that is how Barnyard Boards was born!
I started with traditional live edge boards and then graduated to boards with different shaped handles so they could be hung and displayed while not being used. They became very popular. New challenge, I began filling knot holes with epoxy resin (natural colors at first then bursts of color) because I do not like to waste a beautiful piece of wood. I would rather fix it so it can be made even more beautiful! Those became popular as well, actually, more popular. So, I figured I might as well go full fledge into the epoxy resin boards (and again, I love a challenge) so, I added those to my scope of work. What was to take up my “extra” time has become full time and I would not trade it for anything. I enjoy creating Barnyard Boards and I love hearing how much joy they bring to my customers. When I’m asked about how I come up with my designs, the answer is simple. I let the wood tell the story. Each piece of wood no matter what species, has a unique grain figuring, coloration, shape, etc. I begin with what nature is providing and enhance it from there. I enjoy doing new designs and have recently added seasonal boards to my inventory.
I will always strive to do different things. I enjoy making unique and one of a kind pieces and try to introduce new and exciting things each and every day. I want my customers (many of whom have become my friends) to be on the edge of their seats wondering what I will come up with next. That is what makes Barnyard Boards unique from other creators or brands of boards. I don’t want my boards to be like any other, I want them to stand out and be different and I will always strive to do this as long as I am making Barnyard Boards!
